AI Pet Video Apps Compared: Turn a Photo of Your Dog or Cat Into a Video
Published October 16, 2026
Curious what your pet would look like in motion? Plenty of apps can now turn a photo into a short video. This guide compares the main options, with tips for getting good results from pet photos and a few things to watch out for.
The main tools compared
Based on each company's official pages, pricing pages and terms (linked from the tool name) as of October 22, 2026. Pricing and features change often, so check the official site before you sign up.
| Tool | Where | Free to try? | Clip length | What happens to your photos |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini (Google) | App, web | Video requires a Google AI plan | 10 sec (model: Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash) | With Activity turned on, uploads may be used to improve Google's services; you can turn it off |
| Google Photos "Photo to video" | App | Yes (daily limit) | 6 sec | Not confirmed in official sources |
| Kling AI | App, web | Free plan available (daily credits and watermark removal are subscriber benefits; free credits are sometimes offered through promotions) | Up to 30 sec (Kling 4.0) | Not confirmed in official sources |
| Runway | Web, iPhone | One-time starter credits | Not confirmed in official sources | Section 4.4 of its terms says inputs and outputs may be used to train and improve its models; Section 4.4 doesn't describe an opt-out (Enterprise terms are separate) |
| Pika | Web, iPhone | Free plan available (0 monthly credits; credits are purchased in packs) | Not confirmed in official sources | Section 7 of its terms says anonymized or aggregated content may be used for training; after account deletion, Pika says it will make reasonable efforts to exclude content from future training, but previously trained or anonymized data may still be used (Enterprise terms are separate) |
| CapCut | App, web | Credit-based | Not confirmed in official sources | Not confirmed in official sources |
"Not confirmed in official sources" means we couldn't verify it; it doesn't mean the answer is no. Pricing and free tiers vary by country, account and plan. Google Photos' photo-to-video feature isn't available in every country. OpenAI discontinued Sora's web and app experiences on April 26, 2026, followed by the API on September 24, 2026 (OpenAI Help Center).
How to choose
- Just want a free taste? Google Photos offers a free option to try (subject to region and daily limits). Kling and Pika also have free plans, but you need credits to make videos.
- Want to describe the motion? Gemini, Kling, Runway and Pika let you write prompts like "wags tail" or "walks toward the camera."
- Care about where your photos go? Check the terms for whether uploads are used for training and whether you can opt out. The last column above is a starting point.
Tips for better results with pet photos
- Use a photo where your pet is large and clearly visible. When they're small in the frame, the AI misreads their shape more easily.
- Ask for small movements. A blink, a tail wag, a head tilt hold together much better than running or jumping.
- Generate a few and pick the best. The same photo and prompt give different results every time.
- Choose a clean background. Other animals or people in the frame can blend into your pet.

Why does it stop looking like my pet?
When AI makes a video from one photo, it has to invent everything the photo doesn't show: the other side of the face, the far side of the body. As the clip goes on, markings shift, the face drifts toward a generic dog or cat, and legs and other details may become distorted. The longer the clip, the bigger the drift. Researchers still list this identity drift as an open problem for image-to-video models.
For a fun short clip it may not matter. But if likeness matters to you, look closely with someone who knows your pet well, and keep only the ones where the markings and face are right.
Check before you use one
- Age requirements. Some services require you to be 18 or older.
- Watermarks. Free outputs often carry a visible logo. Some tools also embed invisible watermarks, such as Google's SynthID.
- Usage rights. Free plans sometimes don't allow commercial use.
- How to cancel. Deleting the app doesn't stop a subscription. Cancel it in the App Store or wherever you subscribed.
Or use a made-to-order service
Besides making AI videos yourself, you can also use a made-to-order service that works from your pet's photos. For details about Uchinoko Live, visit our home page.
